Jesus is on the road to the cross and is prepared for what is to come. Too often during Lent, we find ourselves busy marching down the road with a long ‘to-do’ list. The season of Lent calls to be intentional. This means showing up, being present, and diving in deep as disciples.

Questions to consider:

  • What is a Lenten or Easter tradition in your family?
  • How can you be intentional in your preparation for Holy Week and Easter?
  • How can you get unstuck and GO forward with intention as a follower of Jesus?

All That is Glorious Around Us

Poetry is such a beautiful way to express our feelings, especially when the words will not come easily. Intentionality in writing down the words that speak our message and thoughts can be a healing process. The poem, “All That is Glorious Around Us” written by Barbara Crooker really helped me come to grips with the reality of hospice care and the death of my mother-in-law during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Finding God in the everyday ordinary as you Go And … Be Intentional reminds us that “… But everything is glorious around us already." - Michele Herrick, Nebraska Synod staff

Children's Books

Children aren’t the only ones who need to be reminded it’s okay to be uniquely you. Check out these “be intentional” conversation starters for big kids, little kids and adults. Here are five books and one movie idea to get a conversation started about intentionality.

Finding Time to Be Intentional

Finding time for prayer can be difficult with all of our busy schedules and demands on our time each and every day. Martin Luther was quoted as saying, “When I’m busy, I pray. When I’m really, really busy, I pray more.” Small changes made slowly add up to big changes. This month, try to find 5 minutes each day to do something that brings you joy. In just 5 minutes a day, you will be taking care of you. Schedule this time into your phone or calendar/planner like you would a meeting. Offer that joy to God as your daily prayer practice.

Create Your Own Finger Labryinths

Pull out your markers, crayons and colored pencils and create your own finger labyrinth with colors that speak to you, the color of the rainbow or our liturgical colors. Many labyrinth users share they use the inward journey to let go and the outward journey as a time to focus on what is next. The time in the center is for focusing on listening and reflection to what God may be saying to you. Some users have found choosing a word or phrase, scripture or visual as a focus helps them connect and takes them deeper.
