Iglesia Luterana San Andres #GivingTuesday

San Andrés is an emerging ministry. Located in south Omaha, it is a mission of the Nebraska Synod. It serves a multicultural and diversified community, with the largest group being Spanish-speaking. San Andrés has its beginnings in 2015 when it took this name and replacing the church of Cristo Rey.

San Andrés wants to be a point of encounter in the community, a center where young people, children and adults can find a safe environment where they can grow in their faith and explore possibilities for growth and opportunities to serve the community. San Andrés offers the bilingual Worship Service on Sundays, weekly Food Pantry and volunteer opportunities, fellowship and preparation for the sacraments, ecumenical activities, reading programs for children, driving classes for teens and offers its facilities to local support groups.

With the Synod of Nebraska, St. Andrew also affirms that the grace of God has liberated us in Christ, to be a living witness of enthusiastic faith, generous service, and joy. And that same grace of God is manifested to the world through the love of Christ, in everything and in everyone. Thus, settled in faith, guided by the Scriptures and  following our Lutheran confession; we believe that the love of God and our neighbor guide the way we live as a church.

The San Andrés Lutheran Food Pantry began handing out small quantities of food products in the summer of 2020 as it organized and developed ways to distribute food from their location.  In December 2020, the pantry was approved to distribute food items from The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and is now a fully operational food pantry.  The pantry is open every Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  In October 2021, the San Andrés Lutheran Food Pantry was visited by 417 households with 1,060 adults and 801 children.

St. Andrew wants to be a sign of God’s love for the community, the community wants to be a good place to celebrate faith and an intergenerational encounter place.

Responding to the needs of the community in times of Covid-19 San Andrés is the affirmation of the love of a God who loves the poor with a love of predilection. Thanks to the help of men and women, their time, their qualities and the generosity of many, our ministry continues to walk and contribute to the personal transformation of its members, volunteers, and the entire community. With your financial help San Andrés has been able to contribute to the community with Professional Certifications, Technical Certifications, ministry support, and in many cases, financial to people in extreme need.
