Commission for a Renewed Lutheran Church –  Input Needed

The ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church) was officially formed on January 1, 1988. That was 36 years ago, and as we know, things have changed a lot in those 36 years, not just in our society and culture but also in the church. The ELCA was organized around an understanding that congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization were interdependent expressions of the church sharing responsibility for God’s mission, fulfilling the purpose of the church to be a “people created by God in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, called and sent to bear witness to God’s creative, redeeming, and sanctifying activity in the world.“

During the 2022 churchwide assembly, it was asked – if now is the time, after all these years, to take a fresh look at the purpose of the three expressions of the church and our responsibility to participate in God’s mission. Do we have the best structure and organization to support what it means to be the church today? Following the 2022 assembly, the Commission for a Renewed Lutheran Church was formed to explore those questions – the purpose of each expression of the church in order to help us fulfill the call to bear witness to God’s love for all people. The commission wants your input and perspective. Please take the time to fill out the survey below as the church together, we engage in the critical discernment of our purpose as God’s people. Thank you.

Listening Session Opportunities

You are cordially invited to participate in a listening session hosted by the Nebraska Synod.

These Zoom sessions will be on Tuesday February 27 and Tuesday March 5 from 7:00-8:30pm CT and will be hosted by members of the Commission for a Renewed Lutheran Church (CRLC), including Linda Timmons who is a member of the Nebraska Synod, President & CEO of Mosaic, and a member of the CRLC. This session offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of our Church.

During this 90-minute session, you will gain insights into the ongoing work of the CRLC and the impactful changes being considered. More importantly, this is a chance for you to share your personal and professional experiences and to offer suggestions that could shape the future of our church.

Your voice is crucial in this process, and we encourage you to actively participate in this conversation. Whether you have ideas for improvement, stories of your journey, or perspectives on how we can better serve our community, your input is invaluable.

You don’t need to pre-register; just join us for one of the sessions. These sessions are for all engaged disciples and congregation members. If you have any questions about these opportunities, please contact Deacon Timothy Siburg, Director for Evangelical Mission, Innovation and Stewardship.
