Driven Disciples Retreat

Our church recognizes that leadership comes from all areas of our church and community, and there are leaders with the potential to make big impacts on the places in which they serve. The Driven Disciples inter-generational retreat series is an opportunity for leaders to more deeply explore their gifts, work together to learn from a cohort, and discover ways they can more fully embrace their vocation, both within and beyond the walls of the church. Through three retreat sessions, lay and rostered leaders from congregations will actively engage in faith education, vocational exploration, and hands-on leadership experiences to deepen their calling as disciples. By the end of the series, leaders will have a deeper understanding of their own vocation, and how they might use their gifts for the sake of the world. The Driven Disciples retreat is a partnership initiative of the Nebraska Synod ELCA, Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, and Nebraska Lutheran Campus Ministry.

IDEA is raising, equipping, and empowering faith-filled leaders for the sake of the world. The world needs strong, faith-filled, love-focused, peace-driven leaders. We are not just focused on finding more pastors, PMAs, or deacons, but learning to incorporate faith and Christian values in our daily living.

WHO: Congregations are encouraged to send a group of the following:

  • A leader in the 8th-12th grade
  • A lay leader involved in the congregation or the faith formation of the church
  • A rostered leader or parish ministry associate (PMA) from the congregation

COST:  Cost for ALL three participants is $30 total. Registration deadline is September 13, 2024

Retreat Leader:

Pastor Elizabeth Koeher will serve as the primary leader for each of the three Driven Disciples retreats. Pastor Liz is from Omaha and an alumna of UNL and the Lutheran Center. She attended seminary at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and served as pastor to congregations in Alabama and Kansas before returning to Nebraska. She currently serves as Campus Pastor at the Lutheran Center in Lincoln. Her ministry, guided by God’s holy word and the divine compassion Christ showed to all, syncs with the work of IDEA as we provide opportunities for vocational discerning and expanding community connections. Outside of the Lutheran Center community, she enjoys life with her husband and infant daughter, watching Star Wars, playing board games, hiking long distances, and camping.
