Revelation: God’s Vision of Life for a Troubled World

Program Description

For interpreters of Scripture, the book of Revelation presents several unique challenges. Radio and television preachers, popular books and movies, and so-called prophecy seminars have claimed to find in Revelation a timeline of current events or end time disasters. The recent war and horrific violence in the Holy Land have likely reinforced such misleading narratives. In this course we will learn more about the history and literary style of Revelation, and we will explore the text with its symbolic messaging and visions of judgment and ultimate hope in God.

Participants are asked to read one of these two books as background before the course.
• The Rapture Exposed: The Message of Hope in the Book of Revelation, by Barbara R. Rossing, paperback, 2005.
• Reading Revelation Responsibly, by Michael J. Gorman, paperback, 2010.
