The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters – EMMAUS

Program Description

In this highly acclaimed best seller, Priya Parker argues that the gatherings in our lives are lackluster and unproductive — and they don’t have to be. At a time when coming together is more important than ever, Parker sets forth a human-centered approach to gathering that will help everyone create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play. Join other faith leaders to explore this book and its implications for worship, faith formation, meetings, and everywhere people gather! Led by Pastor Breen Marie Sipes.

There will be 4 sessions on Zoom.

  • January 7: Decide Who You’re Really Gathering and Close Doors
  • January 14: Don’t Be a Chill Host and Create a Temporary Alternative World\
  • January 21: Never Start a Funeral with Logistics and Keep Your Best Self Out of My Gathering
  • January 28: Cause Good Controversy and Accept That There is an End

Reading assignments will be share with registered participants closer to the course start date.

Instructor:

Pastor Breen Marie Sipes is a full-time parent and an intentional gatherer in faith formation, worship, and song.  She the board president and a facilitator for Music that Makes Community, a guest preacher in small, rural, vibrant congregations, a confirmation curriculum developer, and a volunteer children’s faith formation leader at her home church.  She lives in North Platte with her husband Patrick (also a pastor), three amazing daughters, two geriatric cats, and one Nebraska farm dog. She enjoys making music, swimming, biking, crafting, and supporting her girls in their many passions.

Class Details:

Dates: Sundays – January 7, 14, 21, 28

Time: 7:00-8:00pm Central/6:00-7:00pm Mountain

Format: This is an online Zoom course. Links will be emailed after January 2.

Materials: Students need to purchase their own copy of “The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters” by Priya Parker

  • Purchase available at your local bookseller, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other fine booksellers

Continuing Education Credits: 4 hours of continuing education credit (PMAs must follow PMA guidelines to receive credit)

Costs: Course fee $20/person plus the cost of the book.

Registration Deadline: January 2. No refunds after January 2, 2023.
