The Nebraska Synod Micah 6:8 team invites you to join us for:
On their own, participants are invited to watch “The Strike” which is airing on the PBS Series Independent Lens (The Strike – Independent Lens).
This powerful documentary sheds light on America’s largest hunger strike protesting the harsh realities of prolonged solitary confinement. Utilized as punishment and population control, these practices are currently used in Nebraska adult and juvenile facilities.
Viewers will gather on zoom on March 27th at 6pm to engage in discussion about the film, solitary confinement, prison reform and how all of it relates to our faith. Participants will leave the discussion with ideas about how they can engage in advocacy for best practices in prisons.
Discussion will be facilitated by Alissa Ries, Spiritual Director and Director of Social Ministries at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Lincoln with assistance from others who are actively engaged in prison reform advocacy and prison ministries.
