Let’s Talk about Native American Culture and History

Mark your calendars for R.A.R.E.’s (Racial Awareness, Reconciliation and Engagement) next Let’s Talk series coming in September. Join us on Zoom at 7 p.m. CT on September 3, 10, 17 and 24 to discuss and learn about Native American history and culture, including the following topics:

  • The history and ramifications of the Doctrine of Discovery with guest speaker Vance Blackfox, Cherokee Nation citizen and ELCA Director for Indigenous Ministries and Tribal Relations
  • The history and ramifications of land dispersion and relocation through the lens of Chief Standing Bear’s story.
  • The purpose and practice of land acknowledgements with guest speaker Dr. Angel Hinzo, Ho-Chunk Nation citizen and UNL Professor of History and Ethnic Studies
  • An exploration of themes in the Native American Lakota story “White Buffalo Calf Woman.”
