As the Nebraska Synod, we walk together as God’s people. We do so in the good times and the hard times. This means that we will step up and walk together when storms come, flood waters rise, tornadoes do their thing, or the impacts from hail, snow or anything else might mean that it’s time for rebuilding. We also do this as we walk together with our neighbors near and far- whether it be in recovering from hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, or more.
We do this nationally and internationally through our partners within and beyond the ELCA through Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). As LDR explains, “We are a church that is a catalyst, convener, and bridge builder.”
Locally here in the Nebraska Synod, we walk alongside LDR and the many serving arms of the church in responding to the needs before, during, and after disasters. A new disaster response team has formed for the synod, and one of the goals that we will be working with is how to best equip congregations to be prepared and proactive going forward. More resources regarding this will come in the months ahead.
One of the main things we do as the Nebraska Synod in terms of responding to disasters, is helping equip and partner with congregations to respond to local needs. We know that disaster response is usually a long-term process, so we are in this together as God’s people for the long haul. We do this in part through the generosity of God’s people all across Nebraska and around the world who support the synod’s disaster fund, which provides grants to people and communities in need.
In the meantime, this page will serve as a space for resources which can be found below.
