Synod Office Pipe Breaks Due to Cold Temperatures

A pipe in the ceiling above the conference room at the Synod office burst around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24th. Luckily, an Immanuel Courtyard staff member was working on site that afternoon and detected the leak not long after it began. Even so, there was significant water damage to the conference room ceiling, the dedicated audio/visual equipment installed in that room, and the carpets & walls themselves.

There’s a surprising amount of good fortune in this situation. First and most importantly, no Immanuel Courtyard residents were affected by the burst pipe. The Synod office was already scheduled for closure during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, so work crews have been able to be on site without disrupting our work as a Synod staff. The damage is largely contained to the conference room and front lobby; staff offices were largely spared any significant impact beyond water in the carpets. The majority of the work will be completed before we return to the office on Tuesday, January 3rd, but there will likely be more to finish during the month of January. Some meetings that would normally be held at the Synod office may be affected by the repairs, but we plan to utilize virtual meetings until such time as the repairs are completed.

I want to give a word of thanks to Immanuel CEO Eric Gurley, COO Julie Kaminski, Immanuel Courtyard Executive Director Jinae Heldmann, and the rest of the Immanuel staff who have already done so much on the Synod’s behalf. We all know that Immanuel is a great partner in this ministry, but they have proved it again in how they’ve handled this whole situation.
