October Staff Pick

How do we change our perspective and live into being made new? God, Creator of all, invites us to live fully in our own skin, using our gifts and talents for the sake of others. We are called to be a new creation. I experience a sense of grounding and freedom to become a new creation comes when I notice the ordinary and then share my discoveries, worries, and joys with God. Meta Herrick Carlson’s book, “Ordinary Blessings: Prayers, Poems, and Meditations for Everyday Life” has helped me name my wanderings and see them as blessings. Her words have helped me repent, recalculate, re-connect, rebound and rejoice. “Ordinary Blessings: Prayers, Poems, and Meditations for Everyday Life” offers respite from the hectic pace of everyday life. Pastor Meta invites us to use the book as a tool opening the door to accessing our emotions and faith in a new way.

The book is a handy 5 X 7” size with just 170 pages filled with short prayers and blessings. The words flow with a rhythm that makes reading easy, but she takes you deep. She has divided the book into 12 sections that include blessings for everyday life, loving yourself, hard things, important people, nature, and holidays. I keep the book handy and invite you to do the same.
