Welcoming and church appear to be synonymous for many.
However, many of us have heard others share stories where they were not welcomed in the church, did not feel included, and were not affirmed or accepted as themselves. We all want to welcome our neighbor, a stranger, and perhaps even our enemies in the name of the Lord but it can be challenging. Join Pastor Erick Hill in this six week discovery around what it means to be welcoming, inclusive, and affirming. Together we will explore the myth of individuality and see how God has wired us to be in relationship with others. We will examine the importance of story in helping us to break down artificial walls and barriers that divide. Finally, we will spend time discussing how to gracefully engage those who are different from ourselves. Together we will learn how to welcome “different” and create a space where you belong.
This class will meet one hour every Tuesday on-line for six weeks beginning on February 24.
Dr. Erick Hill, serves as the pastor for Messiah Lutheran Church in Ralston, NE. This is Pastor Erick’s first call (Installed: Jan. 2024). Prior to his call Erick worked for CHI Health Systems as an Organizational Psychologist where he focused on leadership development, resiliency, and assisted clinicians with issues related to burnout, conflict, and teamwork. Erick is also a certified mediator having received a Master’s degree from UNL Law school in Alternative Dispute Resolution. When Erick is not at church you will find him on his bike riding one of Omaha’s many bike paths or at home reading, playing games with family or going to bed early.
