Event
Freed for LIFE is an annual gathering of people transforming lives. We walk together with incarcerated individuals as they live inside the system and as they prepare to exit the incarceration cycle, inspiring our communities to end the cycle of violence. These changes are guided through being loved by God and growing into the Body of Christ.
Freed for LIFE raises money and seeks new volunteers for two programs:
These ministries foster this change by being the hands and feet and voice and heart of Jesus – meeting people where we are, walking with us in love, and overcoming our brokenness. This frees us to live Jesus’ way instead of the World’s way, so we become the hands and feet and voice and heart of Jesus in our community and environment.
FEAST (Friends Eating And Singing, Studying and Sharing Together) brings individuals from the Community Corrections Center Lincoln (CCCL) to OSLC on Sundays. Our FEAST Partners join the congregation in worship, adult education hour, and we close with fellowship over a meal. Congregation members and FEAST Partners fulfill OSLC’s Mission by getting to know one another as neighbors, healing brokenness together.
Followers of Christ (FoC) leads worship (as part of a rotation of Protestant ministries), Bible Studies and small groups for 7 populations at the Nebraska State Penitentiary, the Nebraska Correctional Center for
Women, and the Reception and Treatment Center (including long term care and hospice), to help people who are incarcerated develop the unity and support of the Body of Christ during incarceration and plan to continue in it beyond.
Please plan to attend Freed for LIFE 2024 on Sunday, November 3, from 3-5 pm at Sheridan Lutheran Church 6955 Old Cheney Rd in Lincoln! At this year’s event:
The event is free to attend, and donations to support these ministries are appreciated. NOTE: Checks must be made out to the NE Synod, with Freed For Life noted in the memo line.
