How did you react to that title? Were you curious and thinking, “I’d like to learn more,” or quietly hoping your pastor would not sign you up? This workshop offers a practical, accessible look at how one congregation is using technology to enhance worship, support funerals and weddings, and serve community events. You will see how St. John’s in Norfolk coordinates a multi camera livestream with one operator, integrates PowerPoint and graphics, and uses social media as a natural extension of ministry, including how this work has drawn younger people into media ministry. Bring your questions and your own experiences to share.
Format and Schedule
Technology in the Church is a one day, in person workshop held on October 4, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Nebraska. The session includes a guided tour of St. John’s current media setup, conversation about practical applications in congregational life, and time for questions and peer sharing.
Cost
The registration fee is 10 dollars. Participants will receive 2.0 hours of continuing education credit. PMA students may receive credit for this event.

Facilitator
The workshop is led by John Skogstoe of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Nebraska. John holds a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications with an emphasis in Mass Media from Southwest Minnesota State University. His professional experience includes roles as Program and Sales Director for Waseca Cable TV, Video Producer for the University of Minnesota Technical College in Waseca, Producer and Director for KEYC TV in Mankato, Video Production Instructor at Austin Vocational Technical Institute, Public Television Producer and Director in Austin working with student crews, and Director of the Radio and TV Broadcasting department at Northeast Community College.

This event is for anyone interested in how technology can support ministry, especially those working to create cross generational or intergenerational ministry experiences and ministry teams in congregations. Congregational leaders, pastors, deacons, worship planners, tech and media volunteers, and anyone curious about practical, congregation tested approaches to streaming, media, and social platforms in worship and beyond are encouraged to attend.
