Join a 30-minute Zoom gathering, “Present with Palestine,” hosted by the Nebraska Synod Holy Land Accompaniment (NSHLA) working group. On the 1st and 3rd Thursdays this fall, we’ll create a trusted space to learn, pray, and discern how Nebraskans can meaningfully accompany Christians in Palestine, especially our siblings in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, amid the ongoing quest for justice, equality, reconciliation, and peace for all.

Format and Schedule

Format:
Online via Zoom (you will receive a Zoom link by email on the day prior to each scheduled session)

Schedule (Thursdays, 12:30–1:00 p.m. Central):

Each session is 30 minutes and includes brief updates, shared resources, and space for conversation and prayer. Our first Present with Palestine: NSHLA gathering will feature Dr. Anna Johnson, speaking from personal experience of the current reality in Gaza.

Nebraska Synod Holy Land Accompaniment (NSHLA) Group

The NSHLA group was formed as a journey of accompaniment with our Christian siblings in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. In its early years, NSHLA organized accompaniment trips to the Holy Land. Today, as we reconvene, we seek new ways to strive for justice and peace and to stand alongside those who live in the Holy Land.

NSHLA’s purpose can be summed up in one word: Accompaniment. We aspire to:

  • Create awareness in the Nebraska Synod so that we can be “salt and light” regarding Middle East issues, particularly Palestinian and Israeli justice and peace.
  • Hold the situations in neighboring Middle East countries in our prayers and search for understanding and faithful action.
  • Offer Nebraska Synod congregations, groups, and individuals opportunities to learn, share, and accompany Palestinian Christians.

Whether you have traveled to the region or not, your sustained participation is welcome. The initials NSHLA sound much like the Arabic word inshallah (“God willing”). We pray for this partnership and hope it grows in ways that promote understanding and peace, God willing.

Who Should Attend

This event is especially suited for:

  • Rostered ministers and lay leaders who desire deeper understanding of Palestine and the broader Holy Land context.
  • Congregation members and small groups looking for faithful ways to respond to the Nebraska Synod’s 2025 resolution on Palestine and Israel.
  • Anyone in the Nebraska Synod who wants to learn more, pray intentionally, and explore meaningful accompaniment with Christians in Palestine.
