Language for God: A Lutheran Perspective  Emmaus Summer 2023

Tuesdays; July 25, August 1, August 8

Tuesdays–July 25, August 1, 8

Time: 7:00-8:30 pm Central/6:00-7:30 Mountain.

Program Description;
We live in a time when some parts of the church are asking for more expansive language when we talk about God, and others find themselves troubled by what may appear to be departure from or criticism for well-known, well-loved imagery for God. Some time spent pondering why this matters and how we might engage people across the entire spectrum could be good for us all. “This book is for a variety of people, including those who are unsure of why language and images for God matter; those who need assurance that language and images for God include all genders, including people who identify as queer; and those who want language for God to be faithful to the Scriptures and to the witness of the Christian theological tradition.”; The book has been featured in Living Lutheran.

This is a 3-session course offered online using Zoom. Each session will include conversation about the assigned chapters with time for questions. Sessions are 75 minutes each.

  • Week 1 Introduction, Chapters 1 and 2
  • Week 2 Chapters 3 and 4
