EMMAUS: What Makes a Lutheran?

Program Description

Being Lutheran is about more than the name on our church sign or having survived Confirmation and the Small Catechism. Lutherans speak Christian faith with a distinct accent, the result of being a Confessional church—a church rooted in doctrines articulated in core teachings. Get a glimpse of what this really means through a brief, accessible look at the Lutheran Confessions. You may discover you’re not as Lutheran as you thought—or more Lutheran than you realized!

Bio of Presenter

Brian Maas has served as Bishop of the Nebraska Synod since 2012. Prior to that, he served as a parish pastor in Tekamah, Nebraska, Kansas City, Missouri, and Lincoln, Nebraska, and supervised 10 seminary interns during that time. His wife Debbie is a counselor in private practice in Omaha, where they live. They have two adult children. Brian is a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Yale Divinity School, and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now United Lutheran Seminary). Bishop Brian is a deeply grounded theologian with the ability to share in ways that allow all of us to grasp the point and participate fully in the learning.
