DESCRIPTION:Register for one or for all three classes. (Note registration IS separate for all three classes). You do NOT need to have participated in the Advocacy 100 class to join us. \nMay 1st\, 6:00-7:30 PM CT: What Does a Legislator Listen to?\nJoin Former Senator Lynne Walz to hear about what effective advocacy is like from a legislator’s standpoint. What do they listen to? What do ignore? How can you get your voice heard? \nRegister here for “What Does a Legislator Listen to?” \nLynne Walz was born in Fremont\, NE\, and graduated from Arlington Public High School.\nShe is married to Chris\, and they have three children: Adam\, Patrick\, and Emma\, and\nseven grandchildren. Lynne attended Midland Lutheran College\, earning her Bachelor’s\nDegree in Elementary Education. She taught at Bell Field in Fremont before becoming a\nReal Estate agent. Lynne was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2016 and 2020 to\nrepresent Legislative District 15. She served on the Education Committee for 8 years\,\nthe Health and Human Services Committee for 6 years\, and the Natural Resources\nCommittee for 2 years. Lynne has been an active member in her community\, serving on\nthe Fremont Chamber of Commerce Board and the Fremont Bergan School Board. She\nis an active member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle and has served on the\nChurch Council\, as a Youth Group leader\, a Sunday School teacher\, a Choir member\,\nand a Vacation Bible School Leader. Lynne enjoys running\, swimming\, spending time\nwith family and friends\, and traveling. \n\nMay 15th\, 6:00-7:30 PM CT: How to be an Effective In-Person Advocate\nLearn from people who advocate with their legislators about effective tips and strategies for effective face to face meetings (virtual or in person). Who should you meet with? How do you even get a meeting scheduled? What is the most effective use of your time during a meeting? Learn from those who have experience about how to use your voice effectively. \nRegister here for “How to be an Effective In-Person Advocate” \nInstructor bios coming soon! \n\nMay 22nd\, 6-7:30 PM CT: Advocacy and Professional Boundaries\nWhether you are a rostered leader or a professional in another setting\, learn how to navigate the boundaries between advocacy and your workspace. We will explore the following questions: can you advocate while you are “on the clock”? Is it ok to use your professional e-mail when you are advocating? What is it ok to display on the walls in your workspace?
