The 2022 Nebraska Synod Assembly is a significant discernment time in the life of the Nebraska Synod. Among the key actions to be taken at the Synod Assembly, which will be held June 2-4 at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney, is the election of a Bishop called to serve the Nebraska Synod for the next six years. The office is open to any minister of Word and Sacrament on the roster of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
The election process is governed by the Nebraska Synod Constitution, Bylaws, and Continuing Resolutions, and is first and foremost a call process. As such, it involves discernment, from the perspective of individual potential nominees and of the Synod as a whole. Therefore, engaging in prayerful reflection and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit are indispensable. We invite everyone to hold the Synod in prayer as we strive to understand the needs of the Synod and discern whom God is calling to leadership.
The Synod Assembly elects the bishop using the Nebraska Synod’s formal process. Initial nominees for Bishop will be identified through the pre-identification and nomination process that begins with the mission cluster unit meetings in February 2022.
