Faith Over Fear training, to be held February 1-2 at the Mecca Center in Willowbrook, Ill., offers participants information about Islam and the opportunity to develop skills to address Islamophobia.

This training is sponsored by A Center of Christian-Muslim Engagement for Peace and Justice (CCME) at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and the Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign. It is designed for, and directed to, seminarians and church leaders.

More than 20 national and local experts will share their expertise and experiences in confronting difficult issues of hate (in families, congregations and communities) with care and passion. In addition to the training, Rohina Malik will perform her critically acclaimed play, Unveiled, on Friday, February 1, at 7:30 p.m. (also open to those not attending the training); suggested donation $15.

Participants will hear from leaders of these organizations about the joys and challenges of living out their faith: Interfaith YouthCore, ReThink Media, Muslim Adovcates, Bridge Initiative at Georgetown University, American Islamic College, Inner-city Muslim Action Network, Chicago Theological Seminary’s Inter-Religious Institute, Sojourners, America Indivisible and Project OverZero.

Conference speakers include Catherine Osborn, campaign director of Shoulder to Shoulder, a national campaign of religious and interfaith organizations dedicated to ending anti-Muslim bigotry in the United States and around the world; Mandy France, who received national publicity after inviting her Muslim doctor to speak to her congregation shortly after the 2016 election while she was an intern pastor in rural Minnesota; Kathryn Lohre, ELCA director for ecumenical and inter-religious relations; Mark Swanson, Harold S. Vogelaar Professor of Christian-Muslim Studies and Interfaith Relations at LSTC, and associate director of CCME.

For more information and to register, check here. LSTC students can register for free through the CCME office. Full conference registration is $125 ($30 for students); one day rate is $75 ($20 for students). The conference runs from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
