A Lutheran Day at the Legislature
Justice and Advocacy Ministries, ELCA-Nebraska is hosting its first Lutheran Day at the Legislature on March 28, 2007.
We will begin our activities at Grace Lutheran Church, 2225 Washington St., Lincoln, NE with worship at 10:00 a.m. and an orientation and information session on our call as Lutherans to live out our Baptismal Covenant by “striving for peace and justice in all the earth.” We will then move to the Nebraska State Capitol Building for a luncheon. Senator Lowen Kruse of Omaha, a United Methodist Pastor, will speak on “Faith and Public Policy.” We will also tour the State Capital Building and give participants the opportunity to meet with their State Senators or staff members and to do some advocacy on issues. Bishop David deFreese will participate. Senator Norman Wallman, a member of Christ Lutheran in Pickrell, Nebraska, has also been invited to say a few words.
Who Should Attend: This is a great opportunity for anyone to learn more about the church’s role in public life as well as to engage in faithful conversation about important societal issues. We particularly encourage Pastors, lay leaders, social ministry committee members, education directors, youth directors and confirmation students to attend this event.
There is no cost to attend! The best news is this workshop and lunch are, like God’s amazing grace, free to all and all are welcome. Free will offerings will be graciously accepted to help defray costs.
